Ninh Thuan in 3 Days: Optimized Itinerary

Before You Go

This itinerary is for people arriving from Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi with 3 full days. It covers the main highlights without rushing. Best done March-August (dry season).

Transport base: Phan Rang city. Everything is within 60km from here.

Budget estimate: 1.5-2.5M VND/person/day (including accommodation, food, transport).

Day 1: Arrive + Ninh Chu Beach

Morning: Arrive in Phan Rang

Most buses from HCMC arrive early morning (6-8am). Drop your bags at the hotel, eat breakfast near the bus station.

Recommended breakfast: Bánh căn (Cham-style mini pancakes) at a street stall near Phan Rang market — 30-40k VND for a full plate.

9am-12pm: Ninh Chu Beach

Ninh Chu is the closest beach to Phan Rang (~5km). Good for a first half-day — easy to access, clear water, white sand.

Do here:

• Swim in the morning (waves calm before noon)
• Walk along the beach toward the fishing village end (less crowded)
• Rent a beach chair + umbrella: 50-100k VND

Avoid: The resort section of the beach charges entry fees. Stick to the public sections.

Lunch: Seafood at Ninh Chu Market

Don't eat at resort restaurants. Walk to Chợ Ninh Chữ (5-minute walk from the beach):

• Pick your seafood raw, ask a stall to cook it
• Typical cost: 200-400k VND for two people
• Must-try: grilled prawns, steamed blood cockles, sautéed clams

Afternoon: Rest + Explore Phan Rang

2-4pm is too hot for outdoor activity. Rest at your hotel.

Around 4-5pm, explore Phan Rang on a motorbike:

• Tháp Pô Klong Garai (Cham Towers) — 20k VND entry, 30-minute visit
• Old market area for people-watching

Dinner: Phan Rang Night Food

Phan Rang's night food scene is excellent and cheap. Head to the streets near the central market:

• Bún cá: fish noodle soup, Ninh Thuan specialty (20-30k VND)
• Bánh xèo tôm nhảy: sizzling crepes with fresh shrimp (50-80k VND)
• Dê nướng lá lốt: grilled goat wrapped in betel leaves

Day 2: Vinh Hy Bay

7am: Early Start

Vinh Hy is 40km from Phan Rang (1 hour by motorbike). Leave early to beat the heat and enjoy the coastal road before traffic.

The road from Phan Rang to Vinh Hy passes through Nui Chua National Park — the coastal scenery is stunning.

8-11am: Snorkeling or Kayaking

The water is clearest between 9-11am. Options:

• Snorkeling to see coral: 150-250k VND/person (includes equipment, guide)
• Kayak rental: 100-150k VND/hour
• Just swimming: free at the small beach near the harbor

11am-2pm: Lunch + Rest

Vinh Hy has good seafood restaurants at the harbor. Order whatever is freshest:

• Grilled lobster (if budget allows)
• Steamed squid with ginger
• Crab congee

Rest after lunch — midday heat is brutal.

2-5pm: High Viewpoint + Walk

Hike up to the viewpoint above the village (~20 minutes on foot). The view over the bay, rocky mountains, and turquoise water is the best shot in Vinh Hy.

Tip: Bring water. No shops on the trail.

5:30pm: Head Back to Phan Rang

Or stay overnight if you booked a homestay (recommended — Vinh Hy at night is very peaceful, sky full of stars).

Day 3: Ca Na Salt Fields + Departure

Morning: Cham Culture + Local Food

• 9am: Visit Bàu Trúc Pottery Village (~10km from Phan Rang). Watch women hand-build pottery using a 1,000-year-old technique. Buy a small pot as a souvenir (50-100k VND).
• 10:30am: Visit Tháp Pô Rôme (if you skipped it on Day 1)
• Lunch: Try Cơm gà Phan Rang (Phan Rang chicken rice) — lighter than the HCMC version, more fragrant

3:30-6:30pm: Ca Na Salt Fields

This is a stronger Ninh Thuan ending: salt fields, coastal road, and cinematic late-afternoon light.

Arrival at 4:30-5pm = golden light on salt pans and distant mountains = the best photos.

What to do:

• Photograph from the roadside embankment, don't step into working salt pans
• Add Ca Na beach if you still have time
• Ride carefully on Highway 1 in late afternoon truck traffic

What to wear: Light-colored clothes (white, yellow, pastel). Bring sunglasses because the reflection is strong.

Entry fee: Usually free if photographing from the roadside.

7pm: Dinner + Pack Up

Back in Phan Rang by 7pm. Dinner, pack your bags, and catch the night bus back (most buses to HCMC depart 8-10pm).

Practical Details

Getting Around

• Rent a motorbike in Phan Rang: 120-180k VND/day (semi-automatic recommended for mountain roads)
• Grab/taxi: Available in the city, not in Vinh Hy or Ca Na
• Hire a driver for a day: 800k-1.2M VND full day (worth it if 3-4 people)

Where to Stay

• Budget: Guesthouses near Phan Rang bus station (200-350k VND/night)
• Mid-range: Hotels near Ninh Chu beach (400-700k VND/night)
• Experience: Vinh Hy homestay on night 2 (300-600k VND/night)

Cash

Bring enough cash before leaving Phan Rang city. Vinh Hy and the farther coastal routes are not convenient for ATMs.
